Stereo Photography Convention Brings 3-D Fun to Metroplex July 13-18
Summer‘s just begun, and already temperatures are sizzling! Time to expose
yourself . . .to the best in 3-D photography and film. No sunscreen is needed --
though you may be sporting some special shades -- when the 2005 National
Stereoscopic Association Convention and Trade Show hits the DFW Metroplex July
13-18.
Held at the Harvey Hotel DFW Airport, this convention is a must for 3-D
photography and film enthusiasts and collectors, but there is something for
everyone -- even those whose only exposure to the 3-D format was the View-Master
they had as children. “This is the largest event of its kind in the US,” says
convention chairperson Eddie Bowers. “It offers many opportunities to view 3D
presentations, purchase vintage and modern stereo products, learn how to produce
your own three dimensional images and meet a lot of great people from all across
the country who share a love of 3D.”
The convention kicks off Wednesday July 13 with a free 3-D Film Festival for
convention participants hosted by the IMAX Cinemark 17 on Webb Chapel Road in
Dallas. 3-D screenings, including “Ocean Wonderland 3-D,” “NASCAR,” “Aliens of
the Deep,” and “A Better Mousetrap” will run from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m. “A Better
Mousetrap” will be publicly presented for the first time with filmmakers and NSA
members Ron Labbe, Jon Golden and Ray Zone in attendance and available for
audience questions.
Workshops on the many aspects of stereo photography, including slide mounting,
making modern stereo cards, and shooting outdoors, will be held at the Harvey
Hotel Thursday through Sunday, along with a Stereo Theater, boasting
presentations by some of today’s best stereo photographers.
A special reception will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at the
DeGolyer Library
on the campus of Southern Methodist University, in conjunction with the opening
of “Two x Two: The Stanford and McLaurin Stereograph Collections”. Mrs. Stanford
will speak at the reception about her extensive stereo photography collection.
The exhibit will be open the public weekdays from July 14th through September
2nd from 8:30a.m. to 5:00 p.m..
A trade fair, also at the Harvey, will be held Saturday and Sunday, beginning at
9:30 a.m. both days. Thousands of stereo cards, along with vintage and modern
stereo camera equipment and other 3-D -related items will be for sale by vendors
from across the US.
The convention closes Monday with a day of sightseeing around Dallas and Fort
Worth. A 9-hour bus tour, priced at $60, includes lunch and tourist attractions
such as the Sixth Floor Museum in Dallas and the Water Gardens and Stockyards in
Fort Worth. Be sure to bring your stereo camera!
Registration for the full convention, which includes the IMAX film festival, is
$60, though you may choose to register for individual days. Some special events
are priced separately.
